Celebrate National Dance Day with a whole block filled with dance, music, art, and community at the Longfellow Dance Party! On Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Tapestry Folkdance Center and our neighbors are throwing open our doors for a FREE, family-friendly day of dancing, live music, performances, workshops, food, art, and fun. Happening alongside the Longfellow Art Crawl, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend the day exploring creativity throughout the neighborhood—discover local artists, experience different forms of dance and music, and see what makes Longfellow such a vibrant creative community. At the Dance Party, come learn a new dance, catch a performance, move to live music, make something with the kids, grab a bite, or simply see what catches your interest. Activities will take place throughout Tapestry’s studios and parking lot, Mactír Academy of Irish Dance, and Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre. No dance experience—or partner—is needed. Come for one activity or stay all day. Come try, watch, dance, and explore Longfellow with us!

Main Stage

  • Open the day by joining with conscious dance and embodiment with a musical journey uniquely crafted by a DJ carefully selected for their ability to craft a musical arc that inspires many forms and feelings of movement. For 12 years running, Dance Church Minneapolis has offered a sacred container for all people to experience the soul-expanding power of dance and community.  All ages and abilities welcome.  If you can move, you can dance!  Come and shake it with us!

  • Join Keri Simonson of Keri Simonson Dance, offering Twin Cities Latin dance instruction, for a Cumbia Dance Lesson. No partner required!

  • Join Twin Cities “Kings of Cumbia” for live music and an open dance floor!

  • Enjoy a lively performance from students of Mactir Irish Dance Academy

  • Dance by Lauren Mae makes dance a place where kids feel proud, have fun, and love learning. Experience the joy of dance through children’s eye’s with a performance from some of the studio’s young movers.

  • Zorongo Dance Theatre is one of the few American Spanish dance companies that presents both traditional flamenco programs and original theater flamenco works. Experience a vibrant performance from some of their student groups!

  • No experience or partner required - come learn some swing with Twin Cities Ballroom Instructor Lois Donnay.

  • Help us close out the day’s free festivities with an open dance floor and live music from local jazz vocalist Paula Lammers and her big band the Silver Linings!

Tapestry’s Small Studio

  • A welcoming contemporary movement experience for older adults centered on music, creativity, and connection. Through gentle preparation, expressive movement, and accessible group activities, this class invites participants to explore rhythm, balance, coordination, and the shared pleasure of moving together.

  • Immerse yourself in the dances of Jane Austen or Bridgerton with this beginner-friendly free workshop.
