Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cumbia is a tropical rhythm known throughout all cultures in Latin America and beyond. A fusion of African, Indigenous and Western influences, it has an infectious rhythm that makes you want to get up and dance. Primarily a partner dance with multiple turns and energy, cumbia is easy to learn and always fun! The evening will start with a 30 minute beginner friendly lesson and continue with various styles of cumbia music from different countries in Latin America.

  • Comfortable, lightweight clothing and soft-soled shoes are recommended; non-marking soles are required.  Whether you're brand new or a seasoned dancer, you're warmly welcome—just bring your curiosity, your energy, and your dancing feet!

  • Expect lively cumbia dance music every evening with occasional live performers during the second half. In addition, there will be circle dancing (rueda) using cumbia music. Jimi and friends have been working on a cumbia/rueda fusion series and there will be an opportunity to learn this dance as well.
