Tapestry Folkdance Center is a fiscal year 2010 recipient of a Folk & Traditional arts grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is funded, in part, by the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.

Argentinean Tango!

January FUNdamentals - Argentinean Tango:
January 5, 12, 19, 26, from 7-8:30pm
Instructor: Ralph Tuttila
Admissions: general $8 / members $6 / students $5

Tango is passion and attitude, starting with posture, dance hold, feeling and walking tango rhythms. This "beginners" series will focus on lead and follow techniques. Mastery of style and the subtlety of interpreting the music are stressed in Ralph's instruction, but he believes that dancing, being a social experience, first and foremost should be fun.

Tapestry Board of Directors typically meet once a month, 3rd Monday of the month, at 7 pm in the Tapestry office. Dancers and other interested public are welcome to attend. Dates in 2012 are:

Nordic Roots Dance

VerticalNordicRootsLogo Nordic Roots Dance is led by Kari Tauring, a Nordic Roots storyteller, singer, and teacher of the runes, stav (staff) rhythm and song in Minneapolis and abroad for almost 20 years. This project explores how the songs and dances preserved within Minnesota's Norse Immigrant community reflect and connect with their ancient roots and purpose in the community. These sessions are written for all ages and all cultural heritages to enjoy.

Joining Kari on this journey is Carol Sersland, who started learning Telespringar (Norwegian dance style) at the age of 9 from her father, Harold K. Sersland, a talented dancer who came from Hjartdal in Telemark. Her involvement keeps this new work grounded in authentic Immigrant Era traditions.
