Open Letter to Tapestry Folkdance Center Dance Community

July 9, 2010

As you know, after 16 very good years, the relationship between Tapestry, a non-profit organization, and TC Swing is coming to an end. On July 23rd TC Swing will be moving their business to another venue, and we wish them well.

As Tapestry and TC Swing go in different directions, we want to assure you that we will continue to have a Swing dance program. We are committed to offering you fresh and up to date instruction as well as dances and special Swing dance events. While change is always unsettling, this transition can be seen as an opportunity to explore swing programming that will be new and interesting for our dancers. We promise to keep you informed.

However, we do acknowledge that the loss of TC Swing does present Tapestry with some challenges. During our 20+ year history, Tapestry has had to face other serious challenges, and we will probably have to do so again sometime in the future. That being said, Tapestry is still strong. Both financially and more importantly, in the diverse community of passionate and committed members and dancers across all our programs including Scandinavian, Contra, International Folkdance, English Country, and Family Folkdance as well as Swing.

We hope that all of you will continue to support Tapestry during this time of transition.

We also know that many members of the Swing dance community are upset and hurt by the changes that are taking place. TC Swing has been such an important part of Tapestry programming for so long, some of you have indicated that you will sever your relationship with Tapestry because of this change. We hope that does not happen. We want you to always consider Tapestry to be a place where you can come to participate in the joys of dance and music with others who share your passion.

Sincerely,

Tapestry Folkdance Center
