We will dance a mix of contra, English Country Dances, square dances, and maybe a surprise or two. All dances will be taught, and all are drawn from English and American "set dance" traditions.

Come and try something new...and bring a friend who has never danced! This will be a "beginner-friendly" dance!

Middle School, high school, and college students ages 12-24 with IDs will be admitted FREE!

Cost for non-students is only $5!! (no passes for this event, and no reduced price for Tapestry members)

This activity is funded, in part, by appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund, and its arts and cultural heritage fund that was created by a vote of the people of Minnesota on Novemeber 4, 2008.

Bollywood Dance is coming to Tapestry! Join us on Thursday from 7:00-8:30pm for these exciting classes. Bollywood dancing is a stylized freestyle dance form based on moves used in the Indian/Bollywood films. This dance is very energetic yet simple and is primarily modeled on classical and folk dance forms like Bhangra, Raas, Kathak, and Lavani. Also influenced by Western dance styles like hip hop, Bollywood dance is lyrical and attitude/expression oriented. In this class you will learn short choreography of about a minute or two each week (4 dances in a month)!! We will also email a video of the dance and the music, so you can dance anytime you are bored! In short, it's way too much FUN!

Admission price: $8, $6 members, $5 students

Request Dancing: After Int'l & Beg. Int'l Folk Dance sessions, join us at 9pm for Request Dancing at no extra cost and practice your new skills along side other dancers!

There are dances from every continent, and the most-requested dances are from eastern European countries like Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Greece. We also do Israeli dances, and couple dances from (western) Europe and the Americas - but you don't need to bring a partner.

Terry McGibbon loves the "smorgasbord" options of International Dance, and he has been teaching for over 25 years. He dances both recreationally and in performing groups. He will be introducing fairly simple village style dances in his session. Village dances are those that require little attention on "doing the dance" and more attention on enjoying the music and the community of the other dancers.
